A TIMPERLEY couple are raising money for the Red Cross by opening their garden to the public

Mary Eastwood,89, and her husband David are taking part in the annual Red Cross Gardens programme which involves around 200 gardens nationwide.

Mary and David promote their Heyes Lane garden as an example of how to transform a small garden into a beautiful space. Visitors can ask questions and get some advice from Mary, who studied and taught horticulture for many years.

Kerry Threadgill, senior community fundraiser for the British Red Cross in Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Wirral said: “We are so happy that Mary is opening her garden again this year to support us. Not only is her garden beautiful but she has a wealth of knowledge to be shared with visitors. A lovely, relaxing day out is guaranteed.”

The cottage-style garden includes several unusual trees and fruits, including a 90-year-old pear tree.

The garden, at 35 Heyes Lane in Timperley, will be open between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday May 20. Refreshments will be available. Entry is £3 for adults and children go free.The money will go directly to the British Red Cross, supporting services they run locally.
