CAMPAIGNERS fighting to prevent Flixton’s green belt from being built are to hold a public meeting.

The Flixton, Urmston and Davyhlme Future Planning group are fighting town hall proposals to build houses on swathes of land in Flixton as part of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (GMSF).

They have set up a £5,000 appeal in order to 'take this fight to the council' by employing their own expert independent planner to assess sites that could be built on instead of the green belt in Flixton.

On Monday April 3, the group will be holding a public meeting at Flixton House, from 7.30pm.

Ward members Cllr Jonathan Coupe and Cllr Viv Ward have been invited to attend.

The group's Michelle McGrath said: “The objective of the meeting is to obtain clarity from our elected representatives in relation to where they see the current status of proposals for Flixton's green belt, namely William Wroe Golf Course and the surrounding area currently protected by Green Belt status.

“This is an opportunity for residents to engage publicly with their elected representatives for the first time since the GMSF consultation closed.”

Numbers are strictly limited and tickets will be issued at a first come, first served basis. Any resident would like to obtain a free ticket to the event is asked to email Michelle at michelle.mcgrath@hotmail.com.
