COUNCIL chiefs have apologised for their tardy response to a resident's request for overflowing bins in Urmston's Abbotsfield Park to be emptied.

The resident made repeated calls over 10 days for the bins to be emptied but nothing was done.

Finally the bin was emptied, but only after he put in a formal complaint and contacted a host of councillors and officers.

The One Trafford Partnership said it was now reviewing its procedures for emptying bins.

A spokesperson for the One Trafford Partnership said: "We are committed to ensure Trafford remains a clean and attractive place for everyone. Emptying litter bins is a job we take extremely seriously, however the One Trafford Partnership acknowledges that the emptying of a small number of bins is not taking place as often as it needs to be.

"On this occasion the standard was not met and we apologise for not responding to a resident’s request to emptying the bins on time.

"These litter bins have now been emptied and we appreciate this issue being brought to our attention. We are now reviewing the way requests to empty litter bins are logged to ensure they are emptied quickly in future and measures have been taken to address this issue and increased monitoring is now taking place.

"Anyone who sees a litter bin that needs emptying can report it online on https://my.trafford.gov.uk or by calling 03330 035865.”
