ROYAL Air Force Air Cadets assisted the Manchester Airport Chaplaincy recently with the Manchester Airport Festival of Remembrance held at the Runway Visitors Park.

Staff and cadets from 145 (Altrincham & Hale) Squadron, supported by a number of other units from across Greater Manchester Wing, Stockport Sea Cadet Corps and the Royal Marine Cadets, provided the ceremonial and entertainment elements of the annual event.

An audience of nearly 800 veterans, VIPs and guests were treated to a continuity drill display by cadets from Timperley-based 145 Squadron and a band display from 162 (Stockport) Squadron before the Remembrance service led by the Reverend George Lane, Manchester Airport Coordinating Chaplain and 145 Squadron Padre.

Parade commander and officer commanding 145 Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Jo Ryan, said: “The cadets absolutely love performing and assisting with the festival every year. It is particularly poignant this year as we remember those particularly who lost the lives in the Somme and the Air Training Corps celebrating its 75th anniversary. I am extremely proud of our drill team who have spent a lot of time perfecting their display and really showed the audience what a group of dedicated young people can achieve in a short space of time.”

Air Cadets is available to boys and girls aged from 12 years upwards. For more information about joining 145 Squadron, please get in touch on a Monday or Thursday evening from 7pm to 9.30pm, 0161 283 3085 or email oc.145@aircadets.org.
