A SALE primary school has closed due to a bomb hoax.

Police scrambled to Springfield Primary School, in Springfield Road, after reports of a bomb threat last night, Thursday, but no genuine threat was established.

The school alerted parents this morning that it be close on Friday as a precaution.

Parents received a text message about the closure at around 8.30am.

It read: "Urgent school is closed due to a police incident that has just occurred before school. There is no danger or anything to worry about."

Parents of children in the school’s breakfast club were asked to pick their children up from St Paul’s Church after the evacuation.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 8.45pm on Thursday January 5, police were called to a property on Springfield Road, Sale, to reports of a bomb threat.

"Following enquiries, it was established that there was no genuine threat. Teaching staff closed the school today, Friday January 6, as a precaution."
