DESPITE getting off to a bumpy start, Timperley teen Katie Thomson’s X-factor filled concert was a sweet success.

Katie Thomson, 18, hosted her annual charity gig at Manchester’s Sound Control to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust on Sunday August 7.

The Timperley Health Centre apprentice and her mum Diane have raised thousands of pounds for the trust, through charity concerts and a headshave.

But this year’s concert was put in jeopardy when the headline act, Tom Mann of Stereo Kicks fame, had to pull out.

Receiving the news just a week before the concert, a panicked Katie scrambled around to find a replacement headline act and X factor finalist, Sam Callaghan stepped in to save the day.

Sam shared the stage with former X factor favourites Kiera Weathers and New Kings Order, as well as David Bulley, Ashley Sherlock, Kate Lynn and Dan Loops.

“What a fantastic show all the artists put on,” said Katie. “We had hoped for a better turnout on the night but with all the problems we faced prior to the event, it was a miracle it went ahead at all.

“Everyone that came along had a wonderful night and were treated to a feast of music classics. All the acts were so talented and genuinely lovely people. The headline acts, Kiera Weathers and Sam Callahan, had everyone up dancing with the crowd shouting for more.”

Katie thanked Sabina Ruta, from Teenage Cancer Trust, for her support. The concert raised more than £480 for the charity, which helps improve the quality of life and chances of survival of young cancer victims.

The charity also funds and builds specialist units in NHS hospitals and provides dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts.

Regional fundraiser Sabina said: “It’s so wonderful to receive the continued support from both Katie and her Mum. As a charity we rely on voluntary donations and the support of the local community through events like these to ensure young people with cancer and their families have access to the best possible care and support. A huge thank you to Katie and Diane for their support and all the artists and bands for being part of the evening.”
