A PACKED meeting of Story Telling Club Success Stories at Work at the Moorfield Hotel, Sale, saw Pennant Roberts from Timperley win the story teller of the year competition.
Welshman Pennant competed against 10 other story tellers from all over England to be voted the winner by the audience.
He performed a self-written poem called Shrinking Giants or Positively the last Welsh Dragon.
It was about a retirement home for clapped out mythological creatures from fairy tales.
Pennant walked away with a presentation glass clock.
He said: “The standard was very good so I didn’t expect to win. It’s a poem I have been doing for many years and it fitted with the requirement so I did it.”
Billy Babu, a professional story teller from Birmingham, came second.
He told the Jungle Book story with animal impressions.
The youngest entrant, Iris Skipworth, from Hulme, aged 17, spoke of a thief who was more honest than bankers.
Founder and organiser of the club, Sharon Richards, said: “I felt proud of both winners and entrants because their performances were of such a high standard.”
