POLICE investigating a crash that claimed the life of 25-year-old Helena Thurm are searching for a driver who could hold a vital clues to how it happened.

Helena, from Altrincham, was hit by a Vauxhall Astra at the junction of Park Road on the A56 in West Timperley on Monday June 20.

She sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Wythenshawe Hospital but sadly died the next day.

Following an initial investigation by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, it has come to light that a black Mercedes was seen to turn right from Manchester Road to Park Road moments before the collision.

Officers believe the driver may have vital information which could assist their investigation and are appealing for them to come forward.

Police Constable Paul Hailwood from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We are still piecing together the facts of the collision that caused Helena’s tragic death, and are making progress.

“Our investigation has revealed that this Mercedes was in the immediate area moments before the collision and in all likelihood the driver may have seen Helena before she was hit by the Astra.

“I would like to ask the driver of that Mercedes to contact me about what they may or may not have seen, as they could hold information that will assist my investigation and ultimately help Helena’s family understand exactly what happened.

“Similarly, I would like to once again ask for anyone else who may have been driving in the area around the time of the collision to call us.”

Anyone with information should call GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
