AN ALTRINCHAM mum strode out to raise nearly £2,500 for a charity that helps her toddler son, who has haemophilia.

Lisa Collins, 36, raised the funds for the Haemophilia Society by completing the 10km Great Manchester Run.

Her two-year-old son Leo suffers from haemophilia A, which means his blood lacks a clotting factor.

Lisa said of the run on May 22: "“I decided to enter the 10km Great Manchester Run for the Haemophilia Society as they do such an amazing job.

“The run was just fantastic. The support you get all the way around the course makes you feel proud to be from Manchester."

There was double reason for celebration for Lisa. She works as a paraplanner at Greystone Financial Services in Altrincham, and gained a coveted industry award - her regulated financial advice diploma - the same week.

Lisa said: "“The treatment for Leo is to inject the missing factor into Leo and I will be trained to administer the medication as he’ll need an injection every other day."

Leo was only diagnosed with the condition after his mum spent 15 months battling with doctors to convince them something was wrong with him. Finally, it was an anaesthetist at Manchester Children’s Hospital who diagnosed him with Haemophilia A.

The Haemophilia Society, which works alongside the NHS, offers free support to more than 30,000 men, women and children in the UK with a diagnosed bleeding disorder. They share their wealth of practical information from emergency treatment advice to which travel insurance to use, and other support such as children’s activity weekends.
