FLIXTON Girls' School (FGS) is continuing to build links with primary schools in the area.

FGS maths teacher Kate Davidson attended Woodhouse Primary in Davyhulme and Highfield Primary, Urmston, to deliver a selection of higher level puzzles and challenges with a focus on 'Thinking like a Mathematician'.

Activities involved a mathematical relay where pupils raced against each other in teams of four to complete a range of challenging mathematical and logic problems putting their numeracy, logical thinking and problem solving to the test.

Miss Davidson said “The challenges help to improve the primary student’s problem solving skills, as well as developing basic numeracy and logical thinking skills.”

Helen Marshall, a teacher at Highfield Primary said “Thanks so much, it has been fantastic. The children have really enjoyed it.”

This initiative forms part of the provision available to all FGS's primary feeder schools. FGS staff attend each school and deliver a one to two hour problem solving session for up to 35 Year 5 pupils.
