TRAFFORD Council is reminding people that they can get involved in this year's annual UK Recovery Walk.

The event, on Saturday, September 13, will start and finish at Manchester's 8,000 capacity Castlefield Bowl outdoor amphitheatre.

Organised by the UK Recovery Walk Charity, the walk aims to raise awareness of substance use disorders and recovery from addiction.

Part of Recovery Month, it is thanks to a successful bid from the Greater Manchester Recovery Foundation, that the walk is being hosted in Manchester.

On the day there will be lots of entertainment within the Castlefield Bowl, for those not taking part in the walk to enjoy.

People who have been, or are currently on their own personal recovery journey, together with their family, friends and Trafford residents are all being encouraged to get involved, support and celebrate individual achievements.

Deputy council leader and executive councillor for Adult Social Care and Community Wellbeing, Michael Young, said: "This inspirational walk is something I would urge local people to support.

"It gives us all a chance to recognise and celebrate individual recovery journeys.

"Having so many people taking part helps improve understanding of the difficulties faced by those suffering from substance misuse problems, their friends and families.

"This walk and the work of the UK Recovery Walk Charity are wholeheartedly supported by Trafford Council and I offer my congratulations to all those who have, or are working day by day to recover from their own substance misuse issues."
