THE British Red Cross is running free first aid courses for community groups in Stretford and Urmston.

The workshops are being funded by Trafford Housing Trust, and are aimed at groups of adults or young people.

Each session lasts up to two hours and can take place in the group’s existing venue.

The training provided is Everyday First Aid – basic first aid skills that are designed to be simple to use and remember in an emergency.

Kate Thomas, from the British Red Cross, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to gain confidence and skills to help in an emergency. You really could save someone’s life.”

Sue Dyson, a youth centre worker in Davyhulme, spoke to young people after a previous first aid session, and said: "We spoke to the young people about choking and the recovery position, and after the session they remembered it. We had really positive feedback."

Any Stretford or Urmston based groups interested in finding out more can contact Kate Thomas on 0161 8888916.
