Dodgy spell costs Latchford points

Leigh Miners 40
Latchford 18

A POOR spell at the end of the opening period cost Latchford the chance of victory over Leigh Miners in the North West Men’s League.

With the contest finely poised at 10-6, two tries secured a 22-6 half time scoreline to create a task that was too much for Albion to overcome.

Miners took an early lead before Sam Dobson put Tony Byrne through to score, Dobson converting, before a culmination of errors and weak defence allowed the home side to extend their lead.

A much-improved second half display followed, but though captain Danny Brown crossed next to the posts to allow Dobson to convert, Latchford’s tiring defence let three tries slip through.

Andy Rowlinson’s solo effort wrapped up the scoring.

Latchford: Worrall, Longmore, Lyon, Woolvine, Stanger, Dobson, Wood, J Hill, Middlemore, Fleming, Green, Byrne, Brown, Stretton, Clarke, Rowlinson, R Hill.
