THE new Poppy Appeal organiser for Altrincham has has broken all Poppy Appeal records and achieved the highest percentage increase in Cheshire County in her first year in the role.

Jean Brookes and her husband Ray took over from Peter Smith, who had been involved with the Appeal for over 50 years, but died in 2011.

In just one year, June and Ray raised £26,538.20, a 43 per cent increase on last year.

Jean said: “It was certainly hard work but I enjoyed it all the same and I hope to have more volunteers to help me next year so I can raise the total yet further for our Armed Forces beneficiaries”

Julie Dove, community fundraiser for Cheshire said: “I cant thank Jean and Ray enough. They had some good support from a local company who allowed them to store their stock.

“The Legion needs as much cash as possible from the Appeal so that we can continue to support the Armed Forces past and present and their families who are in need now and for as long as they continue to need our help.
