FOLLOWING the demise in recent years of Hale's ‘Friends of Stamford Park’, former committee member, Hazel Roberts, is working to relaunch the group.

The group's revamping the group’s website (www.friendsofstamfordpark.org.uk) has been revamped and flyers delivered in the area in preparation for a membership recruitment drive starting on March 13.

The group's first event is to be a public meeting at the Hub Community Centre on Pownall Road in Altrincham at 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 13.

Organisers are appealing for anyone who would like to make a difference, be it big or small, to come to the meeting and become members. Support from the community is extremely important and annual membership costs only £5.

"We’re very lucky to have a beautiful Victorian park in our neighbourhood,” said Hazel. “It was opened in 1880 and although some of its original features like the bandstand and the statue of Eve have disappeared, we still treasure features like the duck pond, the water fountain and ornamental flower beds. They all need protecting and we would also like to start improving the park, providing new features and facilities appropriate to the 21st century and making the park a focus for fun community events once again.”
