THE Flixton Band is gearing up for the start of its long-awaited training band programme which will commence at the beginning of March.

To launch the programme, the band will be holding an open rehearsal which is to be held at the band’s current rehearsal room in Bowfell House - the old Flixton library on the corner of Bowfell Road and Brook Road, on February 16.

Principal tutor for the programme, Danny Lowery, said that he was looking forward to meeting future band members and that beginners and more experienced players, young and less young alike, will be welcome to come along and hear band members in action as well as try out instruments for themselves and even join in and play along with the band. T The morning’s events will begin at 10.30am and continue until noon.

Mr Lowery added that the training band is a part of Flixton Band’s push to make a greater contribution to the local community.

“We have been a part of Flixton for many years now and we have been looking for more ways to make a positive impact in the area.

We are passionate about the brass banding tradition and are making every effort to see it continue here.”
