A 58-year-old woman has been left with a serious head injury following a hit and run.

Linda Reeve was crossing Whitehall Road, in Brooklands, Sale at around 6.40pm on January 23, when she was hit by what is believed to be a red sports car.

Mrs Reeve was alone and heading in the direction of Marsland Road, close to the junction with Brooklands Road, when the incident took place.

The car did not stop and as yet the police have been unable to trace it.

All Mrs Reeve can remember is that the car was red, she was found on the side of the road by two passers-by, who alerted the emergency services.

As well as suffering a head injury, Mrs Reeve also sustained two broken wrists, two broken legs and a shattered knee cap.

She was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital, where her husband Roy said she underwent a full day of surgery, but is now in a stable condition.

Former soldier Mr Reeve, 55, who lives with his wife on New Forest Road, Sale, said: “There is absolutely no excuse. This person left my wife for dead.

“We’ve been married for 38 years and I’m absolutely devastated. I want whoever it was to come forward and face up to what they’ve done.”

PC Paul Shore, Serious Collision Investigation Officer, said: “This is a serious incident which has left the woman with fractures to both her legs and both her wrists.

“She was unable to describe the vehicle but witnesses have described it as a red car, possibly a sports type.

“We are appealing for anyone else who witnessed the incident, or indeed the driver of this vehicle, to come forward.

“The vehicle would have been damaged to the front or the near side front by the collision and so I am also urging vehicle repair workshops in the area that may have recently repaired a vehicle matching this description to also contact police.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
