A GROUP of Worthington Park dog owners has raised more than £600 for one of their elderly four legged friends.

The dog-loving fundraisers have described the response to raise the much-needed cash as ‘incredible’ and hope that the figure will rise to around £750 with the sale of the remaining calendars.

The much needed funds were raised through the sale of 2013 calendars featuring dogs that walk in the Sale park and a raffle including offering prizes - all to help with 13-year-old Bobby’s vets fees after his owner died.

Fundraising leader, Jacquie Wilson said: “We have had a really good response so far, we even had an elderly gentleman in Reading donate £2 because that was all he could afford on his state pension.”

She added: “Thanks must also go to Phoenix Printers, Sale, who printed the calendar at cost price and did a brilliant job and to all the people who donated raffle prizes.”

Bobby who featured in the Messenger last month lost owner, Tom Howe, 90, last year and was left homeless as a result.

Dog lover Julie Smith, 52, of Sale who took the Labrador cross in, says she cannot believe how generous people have been and called it a ‘real community project’.

Jacquie said: “It is good to know that any treatment that he may need is now covered by the funds raised.”
