A RED postbox was deliberately set on fire in Urmston yesterday.
Crews from Stretford Fire Station were called to the incident, which took place on Humphrey Crescent, at around 8.43am.
White Watch manager, Gary Stredder, said: “The GMFRS Control Room received a call from somebody who had seen smoke coming from a letterbox.
“When we arrived, somebody in the street had tried to put the fire out with a bucket of water. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to get water in through the opening.
“Somebody has deliberately set fire to the letterbox with no consideration for people expecting important appointments or notices and Christmas cards and letters from loved ones which could be distressing, especially at this time of the year.”
The incident has been passed to the police.
