Trafford Council announces children's centre consultation meeting

TRAFFORD Council has affirmed its desire for as many people as possible to take part in the children’s centre proposals consultation.

Trafford’s corporate director of children and young people’s service, Deborah Brownlee, said due to requests from parents, a further meeting hosted by executive councillor Linda Blackburn is to be held in the next couple of weeks, in addition to the already confirmed meetings.

A parent representative from each of the children’s centre parent forums will be present at this meeting.

Ms Brownlee said: “The council is committed to providing the best possible, sustainable, effective support to children and families.

“The comments and views of parents and other interested parties are all important and will be carefully considered and discussed before the council makes a final decision.”

Any parent who would like to offer to be their parent forum representative should contact their local children’s centre.

Anyone wishing to comment on the children's centre consultation should go to trafford.gov.uk/budget2013/serviceproposals.asp.

One parent from each Centre? Why? That's a maximum of 16 parents- hardly the open meeting we were promised?
Why won't you talk to your public Trafford MBC.
This is not democracy, it's a farce.

Local parents have offered to find a bigger venue so that more people can attend a meeting to discuss the future of Trafford's Children's Centres. Many people have raised concerns with me about the meeting being limited to one parent representative per centre.

I've put that offer to the Council this afternoon and hope for a positive response.

"Desire for as many people as possible to take part in the children’s centre proposals consultation"...then they really need to invite more than just ONE parent representative per Children's centre...

Only one representative from each centre does not give 'as many people as possible' an opportunity to voice their opinions and take part in the consultation process!
Why not make it an open meeting Linda Blackburn?

I've asked to go to the meeting but have been told that I can't because there is already a parent going from my centre.

I don't know this parent at all and am really worried that they wont tell the counsellor why surestart is so important to me. It I completely sorted me out when I was at my wits end.

If the council read this please have an open meeting so that we all get heard. I don't believe that anyone is really going to read the form I gave in.

If they are willing to meet 16 people why not more? I think it is because they want to make it look like they are listening to people but really they make people go on their own they will be a bit to intimidated to speak.
