AN enterprising brother and sister from Calgary, Canada, have set up a restaurant at Washway Road, Sale.

Vicken Rama and his sister, Sha, have named it Cowtown Grill after the nickname for their home city.

The pair learnt business acumen from their parents who ran a successful construction firm in Canada.

Both have degrees, Vicken, 24, a BA in business studies from Calgary and Sha, 26, a law degree at Reading University.

Vicken said: “My sister told me I had a talent for cooking so we took the plunge and opened up in April. Three months later we temporarily closed.

“We wanted to make the kitchen bigger, sand and varnish the 100-year-old flooring and add a covered extension outside. We also redecorated.”

The restaurant re-opened a month ago.

The owners pride themselves that they only use a freezer for ice-cream

Vicken said: “The best sellers are our hand-pressed burgers and our authentic Canadian dish, Poutine.2

Sha said: “It was derelict when we bought it. We replaced the beams which were rotten.

Our dad helped with the rebuilding.

“For our Christmas menu we have blackened chicken with warm potato salad and steak with asparagus and cauliflower puree. Vegetarians can enjoy aubergine parmesan plus Christmas pudding."

On Sunday, December 3 they will welcome a private party of 60.

Vicken said: “We welcome everyone who likes good food whatever their age."

• The Cowtown Grill is open from 4.30 – 10 Monday – Friday and from 12 noon – 11 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
