A TRIO from Trafford law firm Slater Heelis completed a demanding 100-mile cycle ride in aid of children’s charity ChildFlight.

Jay Lafinhan, Daniel Wise and David Rowlands took on the challenging route organised by the Cycle for Amy Cheshire Sportive, raising almost £1000 for the charity.

ChildFlight is a children's charity, based at Manchester Airport, offering flights and holidays for sick and deserving children of all ages.

Starting and finishing at Manchester Rugby Club, the solicitors climbed well in excess of 6000ft along the route, the equivalent of cycling one and a half times up Ben Nevis.

Associate solicitor Jay Lafinhan said: “We have a number of keen cyclists in the firm and we realised that we could work together to raise some vital funds for charity.

“The sportive is certainly not for the faint hearted, it is ranked within the second highest category of events by British Cycling in terms of difficulty and includes some of the most notorious cycling climbs in the peak district.

"The ride took us nine hours and was the toughest day’s cycling any of us have ever done.

“We all endured Sunday morning alarms at 5.30am in the weeks leading up to the event in order to get as many miles under our belts and climb as many hills as possible in training, which set us in good stead when we had to complete one of the toughest climbs twice due to an emergency road closure.

“The support from family, friends and the Slater Heelis team has been amazing. Knowing we were able to help the great work of ChildFlight spurred us on in our preparations and on the day.”

Slater Heelis has four offices across Sale, Timperley and Manchester.
