LEGAL eagles whose shared passion for comics turned into a thriving business have landed in Sale.

Solicitors Wayne Thompson and John Webster recently opened up a new store, Wow Comix, in School Road.

The business duo, who are both from Sale, lead two lives, juggling careers as solicitors at firm Webster O’Brien with running the shop seven days a week – and they seem to be striking the balance.

Wow Comix started out as an eBay store around four years ago and it has gone from strength-to-strength, gaining a global following.

Wayne and John opened a weekend-only store in Altrincham two years ago, running it alongside the e-commerce store, before moving to Trader’s Outlet, in Sale, as demand grew.

When the high street unit became available, they jumped at the chance to have their own space.

“We wanted to have our own front door, our own signage, to open and close when we wanted,” said John.

“It’s been going really well. Some days you get lots of people in, others hardly one. But we have seen an increase in footfall. We have had a lot of our regulars come with us and we have attracted new customers too.”

The store offers a wide range of products, from vintage and new comics and books, posters and Marvel merchandise to collectable toys, t-shirts and gifts.

The family friendly store even sells ‘lucky dips’, which include three surprise comics, and these are one of Wow Comix’s biggest sellers.

And the new addition to the town centre has gone down well in Sale.

“The response has been pretty favourable,” added John.

“People have had to trek into Manchester, to the likes to Forbidden Planet and Travelling Man, but now they are coming in here. It saves them the journey and they can get pretty much most anything.”

Wow Comix is open Monday through Friday 9am to 5.30pm, on Saturday 9am to 5pm and on Sunday 11am to 4pm. For more search Wow Comix on Facebook or call the store on 0161 905 1685.
