SALE-based leading public affairs, PR and design agency Social Communications has been appointed by a major owner of the UK’s motorway service areas for a £50m project in Leeds.

The public affairs team is supporting Extra MSA Group on their planning application proposal for a ‘new concept’ MSA at junction 45 of the M1, to be named ‘Leeds Skelton Lake Services’.

Located within the Aire Valley, the new MSA will create at least 700 job opportunities. As well as providing advice on stakeholder and community engagement, Social Communications’ in-house design team will be creating all consultation material for the project.

Extra’s unique ‘new concept’ style Service Area facilities typically include a wide range of popular food and retail outlets arranged around a bright and comfortable food court seating area, together with ‘linked’ hotels, a business centre, children’s play areas and a filling station, as well as a host of other complementary facilities. The proposal for Leeds also includes a visitor centre and improved pedestrian access to a neighbouring lake.

John Quinton-Barber, managing director of Social Communications, said: “Part of our growth ambitions is to support large infrastructure projects and I’m delighted by this latest appointment. Our agency has seen continued growth over the three years we have been operating and this latest appointment demonstrates our ability to support the UK’s largest development companies on major infrastructure investment projects. This scheme adds to our growing portfolio of projects in Yorkshire and we are delighted to be able to once more show the wide range of skills and expertise that our team has to offer.”

Based in Manchester, Social Communications is a full service public affairs, communications and creative agency that specialises in planning consultation and PR. National public affairs clients include Tesco, G4S Children’s Homes, Linden Homes and the planning division of RBS.

Extra MSA Group is the largest investment owner of MSAs in the UK with properties at 18 locations, including Extra’s highly acclaimed ‘new concept’ MSAs at M40 J2 Beaconsfield and M25 J9-J10 Cobham. The organisation has successfully raised and driven new MSA standards across the Country.
