A FATHER and son duo from Trafford are setting out to improve care for vulnerable people in Trafford when they open their new business this June.

Mark Collier, 52, will be leaving a career as a banker to provide home health-care, while his son Michael, 24, is a qualified lawyer.

Mr Collier senior said that his own experiences caring for his Mother prompted him to make the change.

He said: “One of the drivers that made me do it was that my mother had dementia, and I was the only child.

“So I cared for her while holding a job down as a bank director, and that was really difficult.”

He also explained providing medical care was vital to ensure quality of life for vulnerable people.

Describing the kind of care they will offer, Mr Collier was keen to state the importance of tailoring a unique plan for each patient.

“They will participate as much as possible in their care plan, because if you completely care for someone they become reliant on you and their self-esteem and self-worth can actually suffer.

“But if you can support them, and encourage them, and give them dignity to help and do things and participate actively in their care, it can give them a great sense of purpose.”

The pair will open their offices in Sale in June, and are hoping to partner with members of the community to raise awareness of the issues surrounding providing care for vulnerable people.
