PROPERTY investors in the North West gathered last week to share their thoughts and knowledge and identified new opportunities for the local buy-to-let market.

Discussions at the property investment forum held by Edward Mellor, in partnership with Auction Finance Limited, focussed on common risks and concerns landlords experienced, the growing popularity of HMO’s (Houses of Multiple Occupancy) and Labour’s proposals for three year tenancies and rent control. Advice from the National Landlords Association and a HMO specialist was also available.

The informative forum was launched for, and attended by, both investors new to the buy-to-let market as well as those with a diverse portfolio.

Scott Hendry, director at Auction Finance, said: “Many buy-to-let investors are turning to North West auction houses to find investment properties. The UK auction market is thriving at the moment, in fact, our figures recently showed that lots sold in the North West were up 55 per cent. Investors around the table were sharing success stories and advice for areas of growth and opportunity.”

Emma Mander, head of lettings development at Edward Mellor said: “We’re seeing a rise in the market for properties that could be used for HMOs and many investors were interested to find out how to benefit from the improved and upcoming markets. The event was fully booked and we’re already looking at planning future events where we can give further information, especially with the election coming up, they’ll be potential changes that landlords will want to consider and be kept up to speed on.”

The next North West forum for property investors will be held on the 29th April 2015 at the Britannia Country House hotel. To find out more contact Emma Mander at Edward Mellor on 0161 443 4781 or visit www.edwardmellor.co.uk/landlords/platinum-membership.

The membership is free and unique in today’s market, the service offers a dedicated personal shopper to help guide investors through their buy to let journey from start to finish. Emma and her team have developed the personal shopper experience over the past 12 months, based on the growing need for advice in the buy to let market today, and it has proved very popular with new and existing Investors.
