AN Altrincham businessman is in the running to win £10,000 after being shortlisted for a top industry award.

Richard McConnell, who runs clothing alterations, repairs and tailoring franchise The Zip Yard on Lloyd Street in Altrincham, has made it to the finals of the British Franchise Association's HSBC Franchisee of the Year Awards.

He has been nominated in the Customer Service category, which recognises excellence in customer care and those that go above and beyond to deliver exemplary service.

The winners will be announced during a glitterinfg black-tie ceremony in Birmingham Town Hall on Thursday October 2.

The most outstanding franchisee will be crowned Franchisee of the Year at the awards and walk away with £10,000.

Category winners will also be announced, and will each receive £1,000.

Richard, who opened The Zip Yard franchise in September 2011, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be nominated for this award.

"It’s great to be recognised amongst the country’s leading franchisees for the second year running and I’m really looking forward to the awards ceremony in October.”
