MP Kate Green visited Stretford business the Debt Advisor, to meet with managing director, Bev Budsworth, and other staff members, who wanted to raise with her a number of issues facing the business.

The Debt Advisor is a debt advice agency which offers comprehensive telephone and online help with debt, and charges for its services.

It is a member of the Debt Resolution Forum (DRF), a monitoring, training and complaints handling body for fee charging debt managers, as well as a trade association.

Along with Citizen’s Advice, DRF are currently the only body to have achieved Money Advice Service’s quality standard for debt advice.

On the visit, Stretford and Urmston MP Ms Green received a tour of The Debt Advisor’s offices. Ms Budsworth told Ms Green about a range of issues including the future of the debt management plan protocol, which aims to raise standards across the industry to ensure all those who are in debt get the best deal for their personal situation.

Ms Green said: “It was useful to meet Bev and other staff at the Debt Advisor today and hear how this business operates.

“It’s vital that debt management companies are properly regulated and consumers protected, so I was interested to hear there are concerns about the future of the Debt Management Plan Protocol. Consumers need to have full information about fees and standards of service.”

Ms Budsworth, said: “I was delighted to welcome Ms Green to visit our offices today to see first-hand some of the important work we do.

“It is absolutely imperative that we ensure the highest standards of debt advice and that anybody who is in debt receives the most appropriate debt solution for their individual circumstances.”
