A HALE church is holding a service to celebrate their clock’s centenary on October 28.
St Peter’s Church, on Ashley Road, are holding a ‘Clock Sunday‘ event to mark the 100 year anniversary of the clock’s erection.
A celebratory service is being held at the church at 10am, followed by tours of the clock tower and ringing room.
The Rev Libby Lane, Vicar of St. Peter’s Church, said: “The clock is a key landmark in the area and acts as a kind of amenity to the community.”
After being taken away for several weeks for major repair, the clock was welcomed back at the beginning of October.
The original clock was installed in 1912 thanks to the generosity of Mrs. Whitehead of Cambridge Road, Hale, a member of the congregation.
A special dedication and thanksgiving service was held on October 5 1912 and was attended by a large congregation.
The Rev. Lane hopes that the centenary service will have a similar reception and urged the community to come and join in the celebrations.
She added: “It is a great opportunity for the church and community to come together for this special occasion.
“It reminds local communities about the passing of time and is an important reminder that we live time in eternity.”
Neighbouring business Hill’s Bakery are baking a cake to mark the anniversary and it can be enjoyed by the public, along with other refreshments at the event next Sunday.
