Event to boost Manchester’s Railway Children

CARING volunteer co-ordinator Genevieve Lamond is organising a charity auction and raffle for runaway children.

Genevieve of the volunteer network of Manchester’s Railway Children, which is fighting for street children, is urging anyone who attends the event at Altrincham’s Old Market Tavern in Old Market Place to dig deep into their pockets to help the youngsters.

The raffle and auction, which starts at 3pm on Sunday, October 21, will be hosted by former local radio disc jockey Pete Pennington.

“Many people in this country are unaware of the plight of runaway children,” said Genevieve, aged 28.

“Each year statistics show at least 100,000 children run away from home because they are desperately unhappy.”

She added: “We need to boost our funds so we can provide vital outreach services for them to make sure they have a safe place to stay."
