Urmston Beatles expert appears on BBC Radio Manchester
AN Urmston Beatles expert is delighted after his appearance on BBC Radio Manchester last week. (October 5) Paul Wilde, who runs his own Beatles website, said he was asked to appear on the station’s Beatle Day because ‘they were doing research and finding I had all the answers’.
Paul began the day in the BBC studio with presenters Eamonn O’Neal and Jimmy Wagg at 9am, before providing outside broadcasts between Beatles songs every half hour, ending at Chassen Park Urmston (formerly Abbottsfield Park) where the Fab Four gave a legendary performance in 1963.
He said: “It was great, I think they thought I was a seasoned professional from the feedback. Eamon and Jimmy were great too so I really enjoyed myself.”
On arriving at Chassen Park, Paul and the team first tried to park in the car park of the Conservative Club and came across a man who had been at the 1963 show.
“He ended up being interviewed which I was really pleased about because I’m interested in gathering people’s memories of the event while they’re still alive,” said Paul.
BBC Radio Manchester is going to give Paul a recording of the show for him to transcribe, as he eventually wants to put a booklet together, charting the history of the Beatles in Manchester.
