Canal towpath spruced up by the Friends of the Bridgewater Canal

THE Friends of the Bridgewater Canal carried out their autumn litter pick on October 6.

Volunteers gathered more than 30 bags of rubbish and some flytipping along the towpath between Timperley and the M60 bridge.

Committee member Helen Bayliss said: "Every time we do a litterpick, we find evidence of household fly tipping in the woodland area next to the canal path opposite the Sale Canal Cruising Club.

"This time we collected a bed mattress and discarded fencing. We would appeal to residents to use the excellent recycling services offered by Trafford Council rather than using our countryside as a tip."
