String of food and drink thefts from Stretford Mall

STRETFORD Mall has been suffering at the hands of thieves with large appetites recently, after a string of food-related thefts.

One man probably wishes he had kept his sticky fingers to himself, after being arrested for stealing £80 worth of chewing gum on October 4.

In a separate incident, a 37-year-old man was arrested for the theft of cider and cheese on October 6, so probably will not be hosting a cheese and wine party any time soon.

A spokesman for Stretford Police said shop lifting offences from shopping centres are normally dealt with internally, but were called to these incidents as food and drink items had been stolen in large quantities.

They said expensive items such as cheese and coffee are the food items most commonly stolen, with a view to being sold on.

If you know of any stolen goods being sold, call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
