Blooming great award for volunteers at Hale and Altrincham stations

MID-CHESHIRE railway line volunteers have steamed to the National Community Rail Awards finals for their work.

The efforts of the volunteers across 12 stations, including Hale and Altrincham for their entry in to the North West in Bloom competition (NWIB) was recognised on September 28 at the awards event where they won first prize in the outstanding teamwork category.

Volunteers, partners and organisations worked tirelessly at their stations, planting flowers, weeding tidying and litter picking in time for the judging day in July 2011 and were awarded a ‘thriving’ certificate from the NWIB organisers.

Sally Buttifant, Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership officer said: “The teamwork was amazing – the volunteers really make a difference at our stations – we are so excited to win a national award.”
