Trafford students to visit Auschwitz

STUDENTS from a number of Trafford schools will travel to Auschwitz this month as part of the Holocaust Education Trust’s (HET) Lessons from Auschwitz Project.

Over 200 students from 100 schools across the North West will take part in the one day visit, including Altrincham College of Arts, Sale Grammar School, Stretford Grammar School, St. Ambrose College and Wellington School.

The project aims to increase knowledge and understanding of the Holocaust based on the idea that ‘hearing is not like seeing’ and to help pupils understand what can happen if prejudice and racism become acceptable.

The students will receive seminars before and after the trip, designed to prepare and reflect on the visit, they will also be encouraged to share their experiences with their respective communities.

The flight will depart from Manchester Airport at 7am on October 25, and return at 10.30pm that day.

Auschwitz guides and trust facilitators will take the students around the camps.
