Doreen speeds into the spotlight
AT the age of 71, Doreen Cockshott has raced to becoming well-known on TV.
Complete with crash helmet and racing gear, the Flixton resident can be seen driving at a rate of knots down the road in a car marked The Old Lady, on ITV.
The scene is from an amusing advert, the latest of five she has made for Plusnet broadband and was filmed at Rockingham race track.
Doreen, of Ambleside Road, said: “I am treated really well by the production company. They look after me and make sure I have everything I need.
“They take me to where I’m shooting and bring me home.
“I cannot praise them enough, they are so nice to me.
“Sometimes it takes two or three days to film, but this time it took longer because I was going round the track.”
She has just finishing work on an ad for a betting company to be shown on Norwegian television.
“I probably won’t see this one because it will be shown so far away,” she said.
Before her adverts, Doreen appeared as a woman who was rescued from a fire by her dogs in Rolf’s Amazing World of Animals on BBC One and in Crimewatch as the friend of a lady who was mugged and subsequently died.
She has directed and appeared in musicals and plays with Urmston Musical Theatre and HATS Theatre Group for 40 years.
“It has taken me a long time to have a modicum of fame. You are never too old.”
