TWO amateur footballers from Sale and Altrincham have been shortlisted in a nationwide competition to play for a Football Leaugue club.
Danny O’ Donnell, 19, from Sale, and Nick Crerand, 18, from Altrincham, are competing against 5,000 players from across the country who entered the ‘Win A Pro Contract’ competition.
A professional playing contract is up for grabs and the boys wills now take part in the first-round trials of the Samsung-sponsored competition.
This year is the first time that two clubs are involved and the winners will be signed up for either Swindon Town or Leyton Orient.
Danny and Nick are through to the skills testing sessions but Orient manager Russell Slade warned that hopefuls will ‘need to give it their all if they want to go on and live the dream’.
Competitors will take part in a series of trials and matches and the two winners will be chosen in January 2013.
