THIS year’s Trafford Summer Reading Challenge has been hailed a great success - with more than 1,500 primary school pupils taking part in the scheme in the borough’s libraries.

The challenge was for young people to read six books over the school summer holidays.

Those who achieved this were invited to presentation ceremonies across a number of Trafford’s libraries.

Author Steve Hartley gave out certificates and medals to many of the children and at Altrincham Library and the Bookstart Bear also made an appearance.

Executive councillor Alex Williams said: “By encouraging children and young people to read books we are helping build strong foundations for their future.”
