A 19-year-old from Altrincham has high hopes for her upcoming charity ball, having already raised £30,000 as a result of her previous two events.
Sabina Ruta, of Suffolk Road, organised her first ball for the Teenage Cancer Trust when she was just 15, which inspired her to study events management at Leeds Metropolitan University.
Sabina said: “My cousin passed away from cancer in 2008 which is when I started my fundraising and I’ve just carried on from there really.”
Her second ball in 2010 raised £21,000 on its own and she aims to raise at least £15,000 this year.
This year’s ball will take place at the Radisson Hotel at Manchester Airport on October 20, tickets are £50 and Sabina hopes over 200 guests will attend.
Included is a drinks reception, three course meal, raffle, live entertainment and an auction.
Sabina also hopes to organise some bag packing and a cake sale at the end of the year to ensure as much money is raised as possible.
Despite the amount of time and effort involved in organising the balls, the events management student seems to take it in her stride.
“I suppose the first one was difficult because I was doing my GCSEs at the same time,” said Sabina.
“We had done fundraising before but nothing on that scale, but obviously this being the third time we’ve done it the organising becomes a little easier.”
