Stretford woman convicted of benefit fraud

A STRETFORD woman who failed to inform Trafford Council that she had started an extra job has been convicted of benefit fraud.
Vasuula Vasiliou, 28, of Pinnington lane, was convicted on September 4 and sentenced to a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £200.
Miss Vasiliou failed to declare she had started an additional job at a hairdressers as well as the employment she had already declared and thus dishonestly obtained council tax benefit amounting to
£1,520.28.
Miss Vasiliou, who pleaded guilty to the offence, now hasto repay all the money she falsely claimed.
Executive councillor, Sean Anstee, said: “Trafford Council is committed to working with the courts to ensure benefit cheats are brought to justice.
“Anyone who falsely claims benefits they are not entitled to is in effect taking money away from people in real need and we will not tolerate this.”
