Timperley pub saved from robbers to be demolished

A PLANNING application has been made to demolish the Sylvan Inn, which was made famous last year when customers and staff fought off would-be robbers.

The application proposes the erection of six detached homes on the Woodhouse Lane East site.

Three masked men entered the pub in September last year, one of whom vaulted the bar and attempted to steal the till.

However, customers and staff challenged the man and tried to restrain him, but he managed to jump back over the bar and escape with his two accomplices.

One of the offenders left his shoe in the pub in his haste to get away.

Det Con Andrew Taylor commended the bravery of Sylvan Inn staff and customers at the time.

Timperley councillor, Neil Taylor, said: "It’s a great shame that the Sylvan is now closed as it was a popular hub for the local community.

“I know that some local residents have had concerns to the future of this site and I hope that the proposed development proves to be popular."
