Urmston father and son take on Lakes challenge

A FATHER and son from Urmston will be undertaking a real challenge in the Lake District in aid of Francis House today.

Pete Ditchfield, his 17-year-old son Danny, his friend Adam, also 17 and from Urmston and Pete’s friend Bill Coplin from Bolton, will open water swim and walk non-stop across the Lake District National Park for 24 hours.

The marathon attempt will consist of a 17km open water swim of Windemere, followed by a 17km walk over the Kirkstone Pass and ending with a 13.5 km open water swim across Ullswater.

Danny, who is a student at Urmston Grammar School, said the four man team had agreed on Francis House as it was the most worthy cause and his dad had raised money for the charity in the past.

Although the team has all been involved with charity work before, none of them have attempted a challenge on this scale.
