Free scheme to educate two-year-olds

TRAFFORD Children and Young People's Service has launched a new Government-funded free early education scheme for two-year-olds.

Eligible children can apply for up to 10 hours per week of free early education at an approved provider which is part of the scheme.

Eligible groups include children in care, disabled children, teenage mums, asylum seekers and families claiming benefits such as Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance and Child Tax Credit.

Executive councillor Linda Blackburn said: "This funding will offer valuable support for parents while giving children a wonderful opportunity to develop their learning at an early age.

“This is all part of the council's ongoing commitment to providing the best possible support to families in Trafford."

How annoyed am I after reading this article. So being hard working parents who are struggling to make ends meet, we are not Eligible for our son to receive funding. As we work full time, so we can afford to pay rent, bills etc, we are not entitled. I have been a Trafford Resident all my 41 years and am absolutely disguisted at this. How can this be "part of the council's ongoing commitment ot providing the best possible support to families in Trafford". You ARE discriminating against my child because his parents work for a living!!!!!!!

I totally agree with the above comment, we too are both working parents, our nursery fees are extortionate, and our income is nothing great, basically I am working just to pay for the nursery but if I gave up work we would still get no support. They even took the tax credits off us, not that it was much, £38.00 a month, but the little did help. Its a joke, so those people on income support etc., can get free childcare and get rid of there kids to go and sit on there backsides all day and watch Jeremy Kyle!!!”
