Yellow lines put down for Manchester United stars
2:00pm Thursday 6th September 2012 in News By Kate Banks, Reporter
MANCHESTER United stars need no longer be troubled by hold ups on their way to training, as yellow lines have been painted near to football giant’s training ground at the club’s request.
Manchester United asked Shell to put the lines down on Isherwood Road, which is on private land owned by petrochemicals corporation.
This will stop stars such as Wayne Rooney and Robin van persie getting delayed in congestion on their way into the the club’s training facility near Carrington Moss.
A spokesman for the football giant said: “Congestion on the road was making it difficult for people to get into the training ground, so we asked Shell to put the yellow lines down.
“People are not allowed to park on the yellow lines but they are only 100 yards long and they can park where the yellow lines aren’t.
“It’s just to stop congestion up to our barrier, it shouldn’t stop people walking their dogs.”
However, 78-year-old John Wardhaugh, who walks his dog at Carrington Moss every day, is not happy about the change.
Mr Wardhaugh, who is from Davyhulme, said: “These lines just appeared over night.
“They weren’t there on Friday, but when I got there on Monday I was told by security men in Shell uniforms that my car would be removed if I parked there.
“Carrington Moss is beloved by dog walkers so it just seems high-handed.”
The yellow lines also run in front of Carrington Riding School, and its owner Sharon Englander said the lines being painted is the best outcome she could have hoped for.
“We live here and we can’t even get into our own property the congestion and parking is so bad.
“We are a friendly place but safety has to be a priority to us.
“If people do park on the yellow lines we will be instigating clampers to come because they shouldn’t even be here as it’s a private road.”

Traffic laws won't apply then and it will be a civil issue for Shell to sort out anyone that parks there.
