Big Tidy Up group calls for first time volunteers

ON Sunday (September 9), the voluntary group ‘Our Altrincham’ is hosting its 13th mass litter picking event in the town.

Previous clean-ups have filled 782 bags with rubbish.

Many more bags of litter have been removed during smaller scale events and as a result of lending litter picking equipment to other groups such as brownies, guides, cubs and scouts.

Organiser Sarah Walmsley is hoping to get a helping hand from residents who have never taken part before.

“We can all make a contribution to the regeneration of Altrincham and this is an easy way to get involved. If you like what we’re doing, please come and join us,” she said.

The group will meet at 2pm on ATS car park, on the corner of Oakfield Road and Moss Lane, Altrincham. Litter picking equipment is provided.

A short safety briefing is given and route maps and equipment are given out. Small teams work together picking up litter around the area until 4.30pm when they all return to the meeting point to return equipment and enjoy free tea and cake for their efforts. Later on, event organisers gather the bags of rubbish together using a trailer and Trafford Council then removes them. More details can be found on the group’s website – www.OurAltrincham.org
