SANTA may still be enjoying his summer break - but he took time out from his sojourn to back a Christmas toy appeal.
Santa has thrown his weight behind a joint initiative by Altrincham Rotary Club and the Salvation Army that aims to bring festive cheer to hundreds of youngsters. The two organisations have joined forces to spearhead the appeal and they are calling on Messenger readers to donate new toys and games to help under-privileged children in the Trafford area.
The Rotary Club’s Ken Garrity said: “Christmas may seem long way off - but we wanted to get the appeal underway now so we can help as many children as possible.”
Last year the Salvation Army’s appeal gave out more than 700 new toys and games to youngsters in Trafford at Christmas time.
This was the biggest demand yet for families to be supported over the festive period - and it is expected that this year the demand will be even greater..
Anyone who wants to help can donate new, unwrapped toys for children aged up to 16 to either the Salvation Army, 27 Ashton Lane Sale from Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm, or the Rotary Club of Altrincham who have a collection box at the Cresta Court Hotel, Church Street, Altrincham, anytime.
