Sale bride-to-be takes part in 10k walk for life at Tatton Park
9:00am Monday 27th August 2012 in News By Kate Banks, Reporter
A bride-to-be from Sale is celebrating her hen do by taking part in the 10K ‘Walk for Life’ at Tatton Park on September 2 to raise money for Cancer Research.
The charity is extremely close to 29-year-old Sian Dowd’s heart, as her mum Sam Dowds, who used to work at Lepps Jewellers in Altrincham, has been tirelessly fighting breast cancer for the past
seven years, undergoing four rounds of chemotherapy and two rounds of radiotherapy.
Sian said: “I proposed to my boyfriend on February 29 this year and we planned to get married next June.
“The doctors at Christie’s didn’t think that she would make it until then so we’ve brought it forward to October 7 this year.”
Since then Sian has received the devastating news that her mum’s cancer has now travelled to her brain, but she is confident her mum will be there to see her get married.
“I wanted to give something back and thought what better way than to get all of my girls together to do the race for life,” said Sian.
“Life is just so hard at the moment and I wanted to make it a big celebration by doing something that actually meant something.
“The Cancer Research charity means so important to me. I know because of the work they do she’s been able to be here this far.
“”I just hope she can be there on one of the most important days of my life.”
Sian, her bridesmaids Amy Daniels and Donna Fent and 33 of her friends will be walking the 10K in fancy dress. To donate visit http://raceforlifesponsorme.org/sians-hen-party.
