Free guided tour of Brooklands cemetery by Ashton and Sale History Society

ASHTON and Sale History Society will be conducting free guided tours of Brooklands cemetery as part of English Heritage Open Day on September 8.

The cemetery opened in 1862 and was one of the first municipal cemeteries in Greater Manchester.

As such, many famous people are buried there, including scientist James Prescott Joule and Richard Pankhurst, husband of suffragette Emmeline.

Tours are at 10.30am and 2.30pm, call 0161 9626745 to book a place.
