Extra classrooms for Tyntesfield Primary School, Sale, Trafford

A SALE primary has been given the thumbs-up to expand - despite councillors voicing concerns about ‘school -run’ traffic congestion.
Trafford’s planning committee approved a scheme for a two classroom mobile building to be erected at , Alma Road, Sale.
The committee heard the extra classrooms were needed to meet demand for places at the school.
But residents, supported by ward councillor Denise Western, sent in 20 letters of objection, claiming the expansion would aggravate the already serious traffic congestion issues in the area.
The school’s roll call could be increased from 350 to 420.
A number of planning committee members said they sympathised with the residents, but pointed out the extra school places were needed.
Cllr Laurence Walsh said the congestion problems in the area were a ‘nightmare’ and the school’s travel plan needed to be ‘beefed up’ to address the situation.
Committee chairman Cllr Viv Ward said that while she sympathised with the residents “the school has been there for very many years.”
She added: “I would think very carefully about the implications of buying a property close to a school.”
She said the council would look at how they could improve the situation.
The scheme was unanimously approved.
