GREATER Manchester Police will take on local celebrities this weekend in a charity football match in Urmston.
Jamie Lomas (Warren Fox, Hollyoaks), Sam Aston (Chesney, Coronation Street) and Rhodri Giggs are just some of the stars turning out in support of local charity Retrak for a football match against the force on Sunday (August 12).
The GMP team of officers and staff will feature a special guest appearance by Chief Constable, Sir Peter Fahy.
The match takes place at 2pm and will be the highlight of a family fun day hosted by Northwich Victoria FC at their newly-acquired Valley Road stadium in Urmston.
Other attractions will include a mascot race at half time, games and activities, music and a bouncy castle.
Food and drink will be available both before and after the match, with a barbeque if weather permits.
The fundraising event is being delivered as part of a partnership between GMP and Retrak, a Cheadle-Hulme based charity that gives street children in Africa an alternative to life on the streets.
This is the third year that GMP volunteers will teavel to Ethiopia and Uganda to work at the project centres and this year they will also be joined by volunteers from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Kate Ramsey, AGMA Collaboration Lead from Greater Manchester Police said: "This is a great opportunity for families to come and have a fun day out while raising money for such a worthwhile cause.
"GMP have been working closely with Retrak to make a huge difference to the lives of these children and every bit of support helps. Northwich Victoria FC are investing in the facilities at The Valley Road stadium and would love the local community to come to this event."
Other players include Andy Whyment (Kirk, Coronation Street), Nick Pickard (Hollyoaks), Nico Mirrallegro (Hollyoaks), Micky Gray (ex-Sunderland footballer), Trevor Dwyer-Lynch (Coronation Street), Alex Lawler (Dream Team).
Tickets are priced at £5 (under 18s), £10 (adult) or £20 for a family (two adults, two under 18s) and are available in advance from the Valley Road stadium (10am - 4pm, Monday - Friday) or contact Kate Ramsey on 07810 655313.
The football match starts at 2pm but gates open at 10am for the family fun day.
Event parking is at Wellacre Academy, Irlam Road, M41 6AP.
